Use Water Based Paints Wherever Possible

Swoosh Décor use water-based paints wherever we can. Why? Well not only are they self-undercoating but they are low odour (less VOCs*), quick drying and easier to clean up than their oil-based counterparts. Also, when it comes to white woodwork, water based paints will stay white in low light areas such as hall, landing & stairs painting (NB. Oil based Gloss and Satinwood will go yellow quite quickly if there is not much natural daylight).

There are some drawbacks to using water based paints for some applications or in certain environments but for us, the positives generally outweigh the negatives.

*VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are solvents which readily evaporate, contributing to the formation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. They increase a product’s environmental impact and are found in much higher levels in solvent-based paints.

Clean Our Brushes and Rollers Responsibly

Many paints whether water based or oil based contain pigments and additives including micro plastics which can cause harm if allowed to enter water courses which then end up flowing into our oceans.

At Swoosh Décor we responsibly clean our paint brushes and paint rollers to ensure that these pigments and additives do not enter the water course.

Donate Our Leftover Paint

We rarely have large amounts of left over paint. On many commercial jobs where there is a lot of White Emulsion being used, leftover paint can be taken from job to job. But occasionally a small amount of a colour will be needed for a feature wall or some woodwork.

In these circumstances we donate the left-over quantities to local charities or re-use schemes where the paint can be put to good use in social improvement schemes.

Recycle Our Paint Pots

When our paint pots  (plastic and metal) are empty, Swoosh Décor do the responsible thing. We wash out the pots (in the same responsible manner as we clean our brushes and rollers) and then we donate then we dry them out and save them up and send for recycling via the Dulux Paint Can Recycling Scheme.

NB. In order to transport waste paint pots Swoosh Décor are a Registered Waste Carrier
